Woodstock 42nd Anniversary!

Hey there!

Guess what this week is?? The 42nd anniversary of Woodstock! Yep its been 42 years since those three days of love, peace and music that turned out to be a whole lot more than just love, peace and music! Haha... Over 500,000 people flooded Bethel, New York in 1969 to attend the Woodstock Music and Art Fair to see many artists perform such as Janis Joplin (love her!), The Who (whoooo are you, who who!?), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival (run through the jungle! they're amazing), Joan Baez, Santana, Grateful Dead, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Jefferson Airplane and of course Jimi Hendrix, my all time favorite artist next to the Beatles. I love that man, his music rocks my world just like the first time - every time!

I am one of those old souls who loves classic rock and is quite bothered that I was not alive to attend Woodstock! Hehehehehe... I know, I know, it was days of ill-planned, grungy hippy madness but hey, I'm a hippy and although I'm anything but grungy, I would have gladly put up with all the chaos to hear Janis Joplin, Creedence and especially Jimi's spectacular performance at dawn on August 18, 1969, the last day of the festival. It would have been the sweetest music to my groggy ears - you know, whilst waking up all sticky and unbathed on a damp/grassy/muddy field. Haha, it would have been worth it, I know it.  *Sigh* If only I had a time machine! But since that's not the case I settled for buying his live performance on DVD, you can see it below in the special Woodstock Amazon product widget I created at the end of this post in case you're interested in getting your own.  It's a real shame that by the time Jimi Hendrix went on stage (which was supposed to be the previous night) many of the people at Woodstock had already left. Their loss huh?

Anyway, in honor of Woodstock I'm going to be doing a lot of hippie and music themed posts this week, so get ready! In the meantime enjoy these images and a video of Jimi Hendrix's live performance of Voodoo Child at Woodstock. Genius of a man! ;)

Janis Joplin

John Fogerty - lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival

Do I even need to label this musical god?  Jimi Hendrix :)

John Lennon: Gone But Not Forgotten

 Hello everyone...
In case you didn't know, today marks the 30th year since John Lennon's death.... since he was tragically and needlessly taken from us that is.  I'd like to take a moment to remember him for his incredible talent and for the tremendous love and compassion he had for humanity.  I can only imagine (no pun intended) that the world would be a better place with him in it, luckily we still have his music to remember him and his powerful messages by.  I love that Lennon and The Beatles sang about such timeless issues, it enables generations like mine to connect with the lyrics and the message regardless of how long the songs have been around.  Apart from The Beatles, John Lennon was an incredible artist, musician and father, may he always be remembered.

John, your spirit lives on forever!

Words to live by....

Imagine
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Happy belated Birthday Jimi Hendrix!

*GASP*
I'm so ashamed that I forgot my main man's birthday!!
*Looks up to the sky... "I'm sorry Jimi!*

With all the craziness of Thanksgiving week I completely forgot.... Last Friday November 27, 2010 would have been Jimi Hendrix's 68th birthday!  Boy would I bet good money that if he were still alive today he'd be rockin' and jammin' out better than ever!

Shucks, that would be a great dream come true fantasy of mine, to see Jimi Hendrix live in concert!  To have been at the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967 for his memorable performance.... or better yet, to have been woken up in the early morning hours by the screeching notes of his Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock in 1969!  Whoa, that must have been insane!

All of Hendrix's music is awesome, but my favorite songs are Hey Joe, Dolly Dagger, Voodoo Chile, Machine Gun, Gypsy Eyes, Bold As Love, If 6 was 9....
"...Now, if 6 turned up to be 9,
I don't mind, I don't mind.
If all the hippies cut off their hair,
I don't care, I don't care.
Did, 'cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you.

White-collar conservatives flashing down the street

Pointing their plastic finger at me.
They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die,
But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high . . . HIGH...."
(that last part is, in my opinion, some of his best lyrics)

....and of course, especially, Foxy Lady and Red House!!

What about you, what are your favorite Jimi Hendrix songs?

This world lost Jimi way too soon, but fortunately  his passion and talent enabled him to create an abundance of great music in his short life.  With his music, Hendrix carved out a home for himself in the world of rock and roll and the hearts of fans like moi FOREVER.  So even though he's no longer a physical part of our world, Jimi Hendrix's spirit lives on forever through his timeless music.

Happy belated Birthday Jimi, you were a hell of a guitar player and a hell of hippy Jimi, you are THE MAN.... well, you and John, Paul, George and Ringo... hehe.

Isn't this an awesome piece of art?  It's titled "Jimi Hendrix Explosion" and it's by Martin Sharp... I love it!

Maniac :)

Peace out!

And finally.... Merry Christmas from Jimi Hendrix himself, hehe....  I've never seen this picture of him before but it's cute!.............
