Woodstock 42nd Anniversary!

Hey there!

Guess what this week is?? The 42nd anniversary of Woodstock! Yep its been 42 years since those three days of love, peace and music that turned out to be a whole lot more than just love, peace and music! Haha... Over 500,000 people flooded Bethel, New York in 1969 to attend the Woodstock Music and Art Fair to see many artists perform such as Janis Joplin (love her!), The Who (whoooo are you, who who!?), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival (run through the jungle! they're amazing), Joan Baez, Santana, Grateful Dead, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Jefferson Airplane and of course Jimi Hendrix, my all time favorite artist next to the Beatles. I love that man, his music rocks my world just like the first time - every time!

I am one of those old souls who loves classic rock and is quite bothered that I was not alive to attend Woodstock! Hehehehehe... I know, I know, it was days of ill-planned, grungy hippy madness but hey, I'm a hippy and although I'm anything but grungy, I would have gladly put up with all the chaos to hear Janis Joplin, Creedence and especially Jimi's spectacular performance at dawn on August 18, 1969, the last day of the festival. It would have been the sweetest music to my groggy ears - you know, whilst waking up all sticky and unbathed on a damp/grassy/muddy field. Haha, it would have been worth it, I know it.  *Sigh* If only I had a time machine! But since that's not the case I settled for buying his live performance on DVD, you can see it below in the special Woodstock Amazon product widget I created at the end of this post in case you're interested in getting your own.  It's a real shame that by the time Jimi Hendrix went on stage (which was supposed to be the previous night) many of the people at Woodstock had already left. Their loss huh?

Anyway, in honor of Woodstock I'm going to be doing a lot of hippie and music themed posts this week, so get ready! In the meantime enjoy these images and a video of Jimi Hendrix's live performance of Voodoo Child at Woodstock. Genius of a man! ;)

Janis Joplin

John Fogerty - lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival

Do I even need to label this musical god?  Jimi Hendrix :)

Woodstock oh Woodstock...

Unfortunately I started this blog post a few days after August 15, 2009 (the forty year anniversary of Woodstock) and for some reason never posted it. I figure what a shame to not share these pictures, so here it goes, better late than never, a little tribute to Woodstock....

August 15, 2009 marked the forty year anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival back in 1969... For some reason I have always felt this personal connection with the whole idea, for as long as I can remember I've wished that I could have been a young adult in that era so as to have experienced the whole movement of peace and love. But, just as they are not now, things were not a perfect picture of love, peace and happiness back in 1969! However, that's a whole other story, a tornado of social and political fury that could set this blog on a whole other path... hehe. On another note and, last but not least and for the record, I would love to have been groovin' on one of those hills at daybreak as Jimi Hendrix graced the universe with his amazing talent! Jimi is my utmost favorite musician of all time, I love the lyrics in his songs and the ferocity of his guitar. Expect a future post on Jimi Hendrix!

Anywho, here are some images that I've collected in tribute to Woodstock. Inspiration for the hippy in all of us!

This bus is perfect for my next road trip! ;)

She was definitely having an amazing time... :)

That's me in the red shirt on the bus! ... In my past life, ha!

Jimi Hendrix... the man.

Hippies, Bohemians, Gypsies.... and Fashion

Okay, so by now I'm sure it's glaringly obvious that I'm a modern day hippie/bohemian... Yes, it's true, I was definitely born in the wrong era... Though, I'm beginning to think maybe I do belong in this one for some special reason, perhaps to touch a small part of the world with my idealistic free thinking, creative ambitions and eye for design, who knows? :)

Either way, there's something in me that can't resist hippie/bohemian/gypsy inspired fashion! Styles that mostly originated back in the 60's and 70's seem to be making a comeback into the hearts of the fashion world under the term "Boho-chic," but there are those of us who don't need the fashion world to dictate the orchestration of our style... For me, fashion is ruled by the same laws as interior design and decorating: personal taste and the expression of my personality, NOT trends. Anyway, here are some recent AND not so recent images of celebrities and common folk [and little extras] that portray the essence of bohemian style.

Don't forget, like in design, ones fashion style should be a diverse mix of patterns, colors, materials and layers that come together in such a way that tell a story about YOU (not VOGUE magazine)! ;)
