Back to College!

Hi everyone!  Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?  Going back to college!  That's right, I haven't mentioned anything up until now but I'm going back to F.I.U. this Fall 2011 semester to finish up my double BA and double minor, I'm super excited!  I've been about 9 classes from graduation for over two years and I'm not crazy about that fact, especially since I'm someone who enjoys college so much...  It's funny how life can sidetrack you, like landing a job as an Interior Design Librarian and Assistant in the Fleet Design and Newbuilding Department at Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in 2004 and spending the next five years working in the field of Interior Design and Architecture as an Interior Designer and the last two as a Probate/Estate Planning and Guardianship Paralegal!  Yeah, here there everywhere but it's better late than never to finish up my original plans.

So, you might be wondering what type of degrees I'm pursuing and the answer is a Bachelor's in Sociology and a Bachelor's in Women's Studies with a minor in Art History and a minor in Religion.  Wheeew, yeah sounds like a lot huh?  Perhaps, though it doesn't feel like it has been a lot of work because I love it!  All those papers on sociological and anthropological theories/issues, art and religion seem like a breeze, though we'll see what tune I'm singing once this semester gets underway...  I'm taking five classes!  All of them are my senior sociology courses, except a European Geography course.  I'm in for a lot of paper writing and I'm ready, I love to write papers...  Maybe I'm a strange breed, but I find writing a research paper much more preferable to a multiple choice test!  I hate traditional tests, I don't think they express knowledge as much as a well-written and thought out research paper.

Anyway, I'll let you know how my first week goes and if I consider dropping a class before the free drop/add period for one reason or another, like a professor turn-off or a nightmare syllabus!  Hehe...  I''m not expecting that to happen since I'm a big geek who researches class professor evaluations (on the university website and RateMyProfessor) before signing up for classes, it's a smart habit I learned was necessary after my first year of college.  A bad professor kills it for me, I can manage to pass a course in the Arts and Social Sciences category even if the professor stinks, but if it's for Math forget it!  Math has been my nemesis throughout school, in middle and high school my teachers were piss poor, then in college it was even worse!  Next semester I plan to wrap things up by taking a computer course, math (for the third time, hopefully this time I'll pass!) and a senior capstone seminar for Sociology and then I can graduate - yay!  What will I do with it?  In the short-term, who knows, I'm still in the process of figuring it out, all I know is that I have plans to get a Masters and PhD and hopefully be a professor in the field of Sociology one day.  I enjoy the topics within the field and I enjoy communicating ideas and information, in other words - I love to talk!  I've always been told that I speak and communicate very well, that I have a good vocabulary and that I write wonderful papers...  That, coupled with my passion for justice and social issues have caused many people to say I should be a lawyer, but I don't believe that is my calling.  I share my love for interior design, art, crafts and travel with a fierce passion for learning and talking about politics, social and gender issues.  We'll see where the road of life is taking me, only time will tell.  I'll let you all come along for the ride here on Inspire Bohemia, hehe.

Ok, enough rambling, it's late!  You know, even after two years of being out of school I'm pretty relaxed and not at all nervous about tomorrow!  Woohoo!  Wish me luck... and by that I mean with parking or something (I don't miss that fiasco one bit!), because I'm so ready to kick school's ass this semester!  I hope you all have a great Monday, I have some wonderful posts planned for this coming week...  I'll be blogging during my breaks, probably from the library or the Starbucks in the book store... ;)

Good Day Monday!

Good Morning!

I'm in a fairly decent mood for a Monday morning, it must be because I tuned out reality for most of the weekend!  HA!  Coming back to reality is usually a bummer, but in today's case it's not.  Thank the universe for small wonders!  :)

Anyway, I spotted this image of a beautiful entryway/foyer over on Apartment Therapy and thought I'd share it with you.  Personally, I would choose another entrance table and mirror, but the floor and stained glass paned turquoise door are spectacular!

Be patient with me as I warm up my engine this week, I have so many ideas on the brain that it's gonna take some time to calm them down and organize them all into cohesive posts.  Also, as I mentioned in my hiatus breaking post the other day, my boyfriend and I are collaborating on a new blog that will cover a range of social issues along with our theoretical analysis and discussion of them.  It's just another outlet for our passions.  As it is we can only discuss them between us for so long before longing for more of an audience!  Here in Miami it isn't easy to find others on our level.  I don't say that in snobby way, I just mean that the prevailing culture here in Miami is very superficial and rides predominantly on image, money and power rather than substance and real life issues.  I know that's a major generalization and does not apply to everyone living in Miami, however from what I have observed and experienced in 26 years here, it certainly applies to A LOT of people!

Okay, I'm not going to get carried away.  I have stuff to do, catch ya later!  ;)
